Shri Ram Janam Katha - The Divine Birth of Lord Ram Lord Ram was born on the ninth day of Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) in the month of Chaitra. This day is celebrated as Ram Navami across the world. King Dashrath's Prayer King Dashrath of Ayodhya was a noble and just ruler, but he had no children despite having three wives - Kaushalya, Kaikeyi, and Sumitra. He performed the Putreshti Yagya (fire sacrifice for sons) under the guidance of sage Rishyashringa. Divine Vision The gods appeared from the sacred fire carrying a golden vessel of kheer (sweet rice pudding). They told King Dashrath to distribute this kheer to his queens. He gave half to Kaushalya, remaining to Kaikeyi, and the last portion was divided between Sumitra. The Birth At noon on Ram Navami, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Ram in Kaushalya's womb. The whole universe rejoiced. Flowers rained from the sky. The entire Ayodhya was filled with joy and festivity. Ram's Divine Form Lord Ram was born with divine features - four arms, holding bow and arrows, with a golden complexion. On seeing his baby form, Kaushalya was filled with divine bliss. Ram then took the gentle infant form of a baby boy. Celebration in Ayodhya King Dashrath gave enormous gifts to sages, priests, and poor people. The entire Ayodhya celebrated Ram's birth with songs, dances, and festivities. This tradition continues today as Ram Navami. Ram Navami Celebration Today Ram Navami is celebrated every year on Chaitra Shukla Navami. In Ayodhya, special pujas, abhishek, and processions are organized. Millions of devotees visit Ayodhya on this day.
